Day 4 (Hollywood Florida)

Well, we were all feeling a bit tired this morning when we met for breakfast at 9 ish. Again the weather has been so kind and we have sunny clear blue skies for our ride back towards Miami. But first we had to do the usually tourist things and stop off at the Southernmost point and get a photo. So with a few images taken we were back on the bikes and on our way out of Key West via Duval Street for our last time. We are not sure exactly where we will end up today and I was not able to set a pre-planned GPS route so we were basically heading for Ocean drive in Miami Beach, the ride back was a little windier than the ride down but we kept good time and in about 2 hours we were in Key Largo again only now we were heading towards Miami, now the GPS said it was just over 1 hour to Ocean Drive so we only stopped for fuel and decided that we would press on and have a late lunch there. OK I have done this trip a few times before and should have realised that Miami traffic is friggin shit at best, we were on the US1 heading towards Miami and we were doing an average of about 10 miles an hour, not only was this really annoying and we were all getting properly pissed off the bikes were running really hot and eventually we had to stop just to let them cool down, mine was showing well over 400F degrees F and we were getting very concerned that something was going to break, so we stopped at a Starbucks and cooled down for about 30 minutes, we eventually got back on the bikes and headed towards Ocean Drive again. We finally got there at about 3:15pm found somewhere to park the bikes and went for a very late lunch. It was such a shame we had taken so long getting here we really didn’t feel like staying around as we still had not got a place to stay yet. We had no intention of staying in Miami so we planned on heading North on Us1 or A1A to find a reasonably priced hotel for the night. Well, the ride out of Ocean drive was every bit as bad as the ride in. Slow Hot and frustrating. We eventually decide to head for the I95 which is an Interstate to try and speed up the trip and get somewhere North of Miami to stay for the night only now the I95 was gridlocked so just before we entered the I95 the bikes were getting seriously hot again so we pulled up jst to see if there was a hotel nearby so we didnt have to ebdure any more slow traffic and searing heat fro the engine and exhaust but the best option was 5 miles down the I95 North so we decided we could do 5 miles and despite the heat it took us about 25 minutes on a gridlocked I95 before we pulled up into the Holiday Inn in Hollywood Florida. It had a bar and a restaurant so we were all set, after a very quick shower we were downstairs drinking a very well deserved drink and ordering dinner it was about 8 pm which was way later than we hoped for but there was nothing we could do about it. The meal and drinks were great and we decided to have an early night and plan out next day. Today was probably about 230 miles but it felt like so much more we were burnt to a crisp dehydrated and worn out, so not the best day on the bikes and we will certainly never ride through Miami again but it was still a good day with a few great sights along the way. Tomorrow will be a much better day we hope and are already looking forward to it. night night. Photos to follow but not a lot today.
