Day 2 (Key Largo)

Good morning, well this morning I think we were all a bit tired but we managed to get to leave early as planned to try and make up for the shortfall we had yesterday with the shortened stop. So at around 8:45 am we were rolling out of the hotel’s car park and on our way to Key Large via a few stops along the way. None of us had breakfast so we were hoping we could take care of this in Naples which was about 50 minutes away, so far the weather has been fantastic slightly cool in the mornings especially today but after an about an hour in the saddle things start to warm up and if we have to stop then it’s really warm. So Naples, what a lovely place, that is and at 10:30 am it was really nice, we pulled up outside a cafe on 5th street which is the main street in this town, I am not kidding, in the time it took us to order a breakfast 5 Bentley’s, and other exotic cars drove past and parked where the flash owners got out strutting their stuff, it’s really pretentious and I really dont think anyone is really that happy as they all look like they have speant about 4 hours in front of the mirror deciding what to wear to go down and pick up their coffee. I bet those cars barely do 2,000 miles a year. Anyway our breakfast was really good and got us ready for the long day’s ride, but first, we stopped off at Naples pier and beach, now we are all wearing jeans and its really hot, we looked so out of place but it was a great photo opportunity, some seriously rich homes here.
OK after we melted on the beach we were ready to hit the road again so we headed back to the bikes and saddled up and hit the road towards US41 and Miami in other words across the Everglades. This was great and we ended up at the smallest Post Office in the US a well-known tourist spot but actually a fully functional post office. As we pulled up into the car park Shannon was inside the tiniest building and was ready for all our questions, it wasn’t long before she agreed to a photo opportunity with us and we also agreed to send postcards from this location to ourselves for $2, and then a tour bus pulled up and a few elderly people got off and were really interested in us and the bikes, so after loads of photos we decided to ride lituarlly 100 yards down the road to the next place for a quick refreshing drink “Joanies Blue Crab Bar” a real redneck bar which was great. We didn’t stay long just enough for a few drinks and photos of us on the porch, and we were back on the bikes, the next 2 hours were quite brutal as it was a little cold and cloudy but we persisted and pushed through and made it to our next and final stop-off for the day in Key Largo at the “Marriot Resort Key Largo”. This was right on the beach (gulf coast). We didn’t even bother to shower and went straight to the Tikki bar and relaxed on the beach. Tonight was going to be a relaxed night and we settled for the resort’s restaurant which was really nice, huge portions as usual but this only convinced us all that we were ready for bed early yet again. So Day 2 was a great day but we were knackered and wanted out beds, after all, we have Key West tomoz and we want to be ready for that full day. Night night.
